Sunrise OR Sunset?!?
One of the questions I ask my clients when booking their beach session is whether they prefer a sunrise session OR a sunset session. This can be a difficult question to answer, especially when you are not from the coast and your automatic reaction is the thought of getting up early in the morning on vacation! (I'll let you in on a little secret, it's worth it! Ask any of my past clients).
So, sunrise or sunset, that is the question....Let me show a few examples before I get into the pros and cons.
SUNRISE
SUNSET
Now that you've had the chance to view some images from both, which do you prefer?
Here's a few things that also may help you make a decision for you and your family.
1. TIME
- Sunrise can be as early as 6:00AM, this means you have to wake up, get yourself ready, and help any family members get camera ready. Are you up for that challenge? Are you a morning bird? If so, seeing the sunrise over the ocean is stunning and using the sun for your backdrop during your session makes for some beautiful colorful images.
- Sunset sessions start around 6:30PM-7:00PM during the summer months. This can be the perfect time to get yourself ready, capture some beautiful images with you and your family, and then head out for dinner and drinks. Do you have small kiddos with bedtimes? Make sure to think about this and their moods as we move into the evening hours.
2. COLORS
- As you can see from most of my sunrise images, the colors are more bright, rich and vibrant because of the sun. The sun also creates a beautiful glow over the ocean, and my favorite part, creating some silhouette images. Who doesn't love a good silhouette?
- Sunset sessions typically provide softer colors with pastel pink or purple shades showing in the skies. I love capturing the sun behind the dunes as it sets and showing off some of its golden glow.
3. WIND
- The wind at the beach can be fierce, this is typically more of a concern during sunset times. Unfortunately we can't predict how unruly the wind will be, but I can say for a fact that if you are concerned about your hair blowing, come prepared to tie it back or re-style based on the windy evenings. Sunrise is typically calm and not much of a concern.
With all this information, it's time to make a choice! SUNRISE OR SUNSET??
